Insurance Agent Job Description

The insurance agent career has changed in recent years, but the job at it's core remains the same. You must enjoy working with people to have a successful insurance agent career.

Many people have their first run in with an insurance company through an insurance sales agent. Getting an insurance agency career through NIA, you will help businesses, families, and individual people select insurance policies that provide the best protection for them.

Insurance sales agents sell one or more types of insurance, such as life, health, and dental insurance. Life insurance agents specialize in selling insurance that pays beneficiaries when the policyholder dies. Depending on the policyholder's situation, a cash-value policy can be designed to provide retirement income, funds for the education of children, or other benefits as well. Life insurance agents also sell annuities that give a retirement income. Medical insurance agents sell medical insurance policies that cover the costs of medical care and loss of income due to illness or injury. They also may sell dental insurance. Insurance Agents may specialize in any one of these areas, or work as generalists, providing multiple policies to a single customer.

In an insurance agency career, insurance sales agents also prepare reports, create records, and find new clients. If a policy holder experience a loss, insurance agents help them settle their claims.

Increases in technology have greatly affected the insurance agency career business, making it more efficient and giving the agent the ability to handle more clients. Agents' computers are now linked directly to insurance carriers through the Internet, making the work of finding price quotes and setting up applications and service requests faster and easier than ever before. Computers also allow insurance agents to be better informed about newer products that the insurance carriers have released.

The continued growth of the Internet in the insurance agency industry has changed the relationship between client and insurance agent. Insurance agents previously used to devote much of their time to marketing and selling products to new clients. Now, clients are able to obtain insurance quotes from our company's website and then contact the company directly to purchase policies. This interaction gives the client a more active role in selecting their policy, while reducing the amount of time insurance agents spend seeking out new clients, which makes it easier on those looking into an insurance agency career. Insurance sales agents also gain new accounts through referrals, thus making it important that they maintain contact regularly with their clients to ensure that their financial needs are being met. An insurance agent job is about working with people, and developing a happy and satisfied clientele that will recommend an agent's services to other potential customers is the key to success in an insurance agency career.
